Description

The “Rotlahner” – an easy and well-known ski mountain in the Gsiesertal Valley Alps

Starting point: Gsiesertal Valley – St. Magdalena, Head of the Valley (1465 m)

Descent: back via the ascent route

Walking time: 3 hours 30 min.

Difficulty: medium; except for two steep slopes (below the Kasermähder Alm and in the area of the Heimwaldjöchl) the tour poses no technical difficulties

Altitude difference: 1270 m

From the Head of the Valley in St. Magdalena (1465 m), follow signpost no. 47 over the bridge, immediately turn left and after a few metres turn right. The snowshoe or ski tour leads parallel to the toboggan run and along the Tscharniet stream uphill to the Köfler Alm (1806 m). Pass the large boulder, keep straight (do not follow the forest road), and continue through the steeply ascending forest belt with snow-laden pines and stone pines to the Kasermähder Alm (2048 m). The gentle snowy slopes of the “Stierböden” lead to the Heimwaldjöchl (2648 m); from there turn right and in about 15 minutes reach the final destination, the Rotlahner.
