Description

Alpine farming has shaped the landscape and culture of the Gsiesertal Valley for centuries. Alpine dairywomen played a particularly important role: they cared for the livestock, milked the cows and processed the milk into butter, curd cheese and alpine cheese. At the same time, life on the mountain pastures gave many women a degree of independence and freedom. Along the Sennersteig, information panels tell about the demanding work of an alpine summer, traditional knowledge of livestock farming, milk processing and medicinal herbs, and a way of life that remains closely connected to the valley’s cultural landscape.
