Businesses taking responsibility: recognisable, verifiable and genuine.

In our region, sustainability is not just a destination-wide commitment. It is also reflected in individual businesses. Some businesses have been awarded the South Tyrol Sustainability Label, demonstrating their commitment to responsible practices concerning the environment, employees and resources.

Based on the international criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), the label has three levels. It provides a recognised framework for sustainability practices and is awarded by independent bodies according to clearly defined and verified requirements.

Several businesses in our region already hold the label, while others are working towards certification.

For you as a guest, this means you can choose a certified business with confidence, rather than having to ask about its sustainability practices once you arrive.

Certified businesses

Level 1
Level 1 is the starting point of the South Tyrol Sustainability Label. The business assesses its current practices, introduces initial measures and meets the requirements defined for this level.
level-2
Level 2
Level 2 builds on the first stage, placing greater emphasis on social and economic aspects. It also addresses areas such as greenhouse gas accounting and procurement management in more detail.
level-3
Level 3
Level 3 is the highest level. The business achieves international certification following an independent audit and meets the requirements of the South Tyrol Sustainability Label for this level.

Businesses working towards certification
A process of continuous improvement
For us, sustainability is not simply something a business has achieved or has yet to achieve. It is a process of continuous improvement. Businesses can submit existing certifications or undergo a dedicated audit to meet the requirements of the South Tyrol Sustainability Label.
We inform our member businesses about these opportunities, share examples of good practice from within the valley and support them with their first steps, from calculating their carbon footprint to working towards certification.

To help them along the way, targeted training and professional development programmes are available in cooperation with specialist organisations and associations, including HGV, IDM, Vireo and other partners.

Regional and organic produce
Many of our farms and alpine huts choose to use their own produce, which they grow or make themselves. Behind these products are care, dedication and hard work, often closely connected to everyday life in the valley. This helps support local farming and the regional economy, while giving you the chance to discover authentic flavours of the region.
