Traces of the past that are still visible today.

Simon von Taisten – Late Gothic painter

Born in Taisten around 1450/1455, Simon von Taisten left his artistic mark far beyond his home village. Works by this Late Gothic painter survive throughout the Pustertal Valley, East Tyrol and Carinthia. In Taisten, you can see his frescoes and other works in the parish church, St James' cemetery chapel and St George's Church. A depiction of the Passion attributed to the artist can also be found in St. Martin in Gsiesertal Valley.

Paul Troger – master of Baroque painting

Born in 1698 in Zell unter Welsperg, now part of Welsberg, Paul Troger is one of the village's most notable artists. His birthplace stands near the parish church and marks the starting point of the Paul Troger walking trail. Inside St Margaret's Church, you can see three of his works: St Margaret with Saints, Adoration of the Magi and Almsgiving of St John. Another oil painting is held at the headquarters of Raiffeisenbank Welsberg-Gsies-Taisten.
