Exploring with care

Nature, Flora and Fauna in Gsiesertal Valley-Welsberg-Taisten

Nature shapes our valley.

For us, experiencing nature also means taking responsibility. Our landscape, wildlife and a stable climate are fundamental to everything that makes our valley what it is, both as a place to live and as somewhere for you to visit. Here, you'll find advice on how to explore the outdoors with care and discover what we're doing to preserve our traditional cultural landscape.

Discovering biodiversity

Nature in our valley reveals itself in many different ways: from mountain peaks and flowering alpine meadows to forests and protected habitats. These places provide a home for many different species of plants and animals.

Gentle outdoor experiences, such as guided walks focusing on bees, flowers or wild herbs, invite you to take a closer look at the plants, wildlife and landscapes around you, rather than simply passing through.

Respecting wildlife and grazing animals

You might come across roe deer, marmots and other animals quite unexpectedly: in a clearing, beside a path or at dusk. To help keep these encounters possible, it's important to respect their habitats and needs. A few clear guidelines will help you avoid disturbing wildlife while still enjoying meaningful encounters with nature.

  • Stay on marked paths and trails to protect nature, wildlife and your own safety.
  • Do not pick flowers, berries, mushrooms or other plants, to help preserve local flora.
  • Keep your distance and observe wild animals from afar. This allows both you and the animals to enjoy a peaceful encounter.
  • Stay away from young animals and their mothers. Do not touch or stroke them.
  • Leave no litter behind. Take everything you bring into nature back with you and dispose of it properly.

When walking with your dog, a little extra care makes a difference:

  • Keep your dog on a lead: wildlife and grazing animals may feel threatened.
  • Pick up after your dog and dispose of waste in the designated bins in the valley.
