Prepare for your winter adventure

Weather, snow and path conditions can change quickly during winter. Before setting off, check the latest weather forecast and current path conditions. Always adapt your winter walk or snowshoe tour to the conditions.

What to bear in mind:

  • On groomed winter walking paths, wear sturdy, non-slip footwear.
  • Away from groomed paths, snowshoes and walking poles may be useful, depending on your chosen route.
  • Bring warm winter clothing and, for longer outings, enough to drink and a small first-aid kit.
  • Microspikes provide extra grip on icy or hard-frozen sections of the path.
  • When snowshoeing in open terrain, always check the latest snow conditions and avalanche bulletin.
  • For snowshoe tours in open terrain exposed to avalanche danger, an avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel are essential safety equipment.
