Drinking Water in Gsiesertal Valley-Welsberg-Taisten

A precious resource. Used consciously, protected together.

Water is one of our valley's most precious resources. Our tap water comes directly from protected springs and is safe to drink. You can enjoy it straight from the tap instead of buying bottled water.

Where our water comes from and how it's protected
Our drinking water springs are carefully recorded and protected within clearly designated protection zones:
  • Welsberg-Taisten: 8 drinking water protection zones containing a total of 52 springs.
  • Gsiesertal Valley: 9 drinking water protection zones containing a total of 19 springs.

For each protection zone, responsibility for monitoring and water quality is clearly defined. You can explore the protected areas in more detail on the South Tyrol provincial government's website.

The quality of our drinking water

Our drinking water is regularly tested and consistently meets high quality standards. We provide clear information about where it comes from and its characteristics, so you can feel confident drinking water straight from the tap.

To find places where you can refill your bottle free of charge while exploring, take a look at our guide to public drinking water fountains.

Using water responsibly
Although water is plentiful in our valley, using it responsibly still matters. A few simple habits can make a difference:

- Refill your water bottle at one of our public drinking water fountains instead of buying bottled water.
- Take short showers rather than baths, and turn off the tap, for example while brushing your teeth.
- Where available, use water refill stations at local businesses and around the villages.
